Big Curvey Pots 2007

Big curvey pots 2007

I have always worked with coloured slips and drawn line in stoneware and porcelain clays, with glazes and oxides applied, sometimes enhanced with gold lustre in a third firing. The thrown and slab made bowls, plates and pots were primarily vehicles for figurative or abstract designs of fish and birds, fields, rivers, canals and glimpses of the world through windows. I later developed my ideas about gardens and landscape informed by my increasing involvement in painting.

The scale of my pots ranges from tiny pieces that fit in the palm of the hand, to coil built forms over a metre high. My paintings seem to be going the same way.
